After graduating from McGill University Medical School in 1993, Sandie began specialty training in Emergency Medicine. Drawn to helping people on a deeper level she completed her residency in Family Medicine and started a GP-Psychotherapy practice focused on Women's Mental Health in 1997. Sandie focuses on a holistic approach to wellness, which includes Equine-Facilitated Wellness, mindfulness and Nature-Centered Healing.
Sandie is one of the first physicians in North America to integrate Equine-Facilitated-Psychotherapy (EFP) into her medical practice. In 2008 she apprenticed with Linda Kohanov, world-renowned innovator in the field of EFP, founder of Epona Equestrian Services in Sonoita, Arizona and author of "The Tao of Equus", "Riding Between the Worlds" and "The Way of the Horse". Sandie is the only active Epona-Approved Instructor in the prairie provinces and one of only two EAI physicians in Canada. Sandie has also completed advanced training focused on using EFP in the treatment of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) with Leigh Shambo, advanced Epona Instructor and founder of Human-Equine Alliances for Learning (HEAL) in Chehalis, WA.
As well, Sandie is an avid student of anything "horse", including being enrolled in the "Equine Science Certificate" program through the University of Geulph, completing level 1 training in Tellington-Touch for horses (TTEAM) with Robyn Hood and auditing natural horsemanship clinics. She also has an interest in energy healing for horses and is very excited to be hosting a clinic by Margarit Coates, author of "Healing for Horses: The Essential Guide to Using Hands-On Healing Energy with Horses", "Connecting with Horses: The Life Lessons We Can Learn from Horses" and "Horses Talking: How to Share Healing Messages with the Horses in Your Life", from the UK next July.
Furthering her level of understanding and connection with horses and sharing this with others as part of the mutual healing journeys of horse and human has become a lifelong passion for Sandie.
